Many visitors are curious about the Lam Kinh ruins by the story of laughing trees right at the grave of King Le Thai To, ancient ironwood tree and love story of the banyan trees.

Lam Kinh historical site is located 50 km northwest of Thanh Hoa city in Tho Xuan and Ngoc Lac districts. This is the hometown and also the resting place of the hero Le Loi and the emperors, queens of the Le Dynasty.

After many ups and downs of the nation's history, Lam Kinh ruins today are embellished, restored and become a special national monument.

In the vast grounds of the ruins there are many rare trees which are hundreds of years old.

However, the most curious stories to visitors are the mysterious stories of laughing guava trees right at the grave of King Le Thai To, ancient ironwood tree and love story of the banyan trees.

The laughing guava tree at the tomb of King Le Thai To

The guava tree is located on the right side of the tomb of King Le, behind the statues of mandarins and animal standing in front of the king's grave.

The guava tree is thin, about 3m high, small leaves, every year there are many fruits.

According to the guides at the monument, the laughing guava trees story began about 10 years ago and was discovered by a tourist.

Accordingly, when someone touches the tree trunk lightly, the leaf will vibrate. Leaves like little fingers open, even when it's not windy. And if visitors hold hands and close their eyes, they will feel different, like traveling to somewhere.

So far, many people have tried exploring the tree and surprised by this strange phenomenon.

The ironwood tree

At the site of Lam Kinh, there is an ironwood tree about 600 years old, one of the highest trees in Lam Kinh forest.

Strangely or coincidentally, the green, healthy ironwood tree suddenly shed their leaves as soon as the project of restoring the Lam Kinh was approved in 2010.

The dead tree is at the completion stage. When the tree was cut down, it was in very good condition, strangely (normally when this kind of tree is dead, it is very hollow inside) and very suitable for the pillar of Main Hall.

Only one tree but the body and branches are enough to make a set of pillars and all columns.
The explanation for the extraordinary "passing" of the ironwood tree seems that this tree was born to devote himself for reconstruction the palace.

Love story of banyan and gold apple trees

According to the tour guide, the people who are attached to the Lam Kinh relics have long been told that in ancient times, the place where the banyan tree stands was a golden apple tree. Banyan seeds brought by birds grew up and become a big tree.

Later, the banyan tree grew very well, the roots are very special - they do not reach as far as other banyan trees but embraces the original gold apple tree and then become one.

From the root to the top, it is about 20m high, the tree base is very big. The gold apple tree in the inside of the banyan tree is still green, each year there are a lot of fruits, though small, but its strong aroma attracts everyone.

In 2007, the old gold apple tree dried up, but now there is still a dry branch visible from the outside of the root.

In 2013, the banyan tree is recognized as a heritage by the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment due to its stature, uniqueness and historical value.
